Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Öcalan called  for the end of hunger strikes in prisons nationwide, according to his brother Mehmet Öcalan.

Öcalan reportedly said that  the hunger strikes should not be staged by inmates, but “by those who are outside” instead.

Öcalan’s brother also said that the leader believed the hunger strikes have reached their goals.

Prisoners are participating in the hunger strike to demand an end to the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan, the convicted leader of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), who is serving a life sentence on İmralı island.
