Antoine Griezmann appears to have ruled out any prospect of leaving Atletico Madrid for Manchester United this summer, as he suggested there were three top clubs he would dream of joining.
Griezmann has been persistently linked with United in recent months, with some reports claiming the Old Trafford club were close to having a deal in place to sign the France international.
Yet any negotiations would depend on Griezmann showing a willingness to leave Atletico and move to Manchester, with his comments in an interview last month suggesting the weather and style of the Premier League were not to his liking.
Now he has added to the suspicion that United boss Jose Mourinho will need to look elsewhere for a new striker in the next transfer window, as he picked out the three clubs he would be tempted to join and omitted the Old Trafford giants.
After he was asked to give his views on a possible move to Real Madrid or Barcelona, he offered this response:
“Why not? That’s the dream for every player; to be at big clubs like that, or Bayern Munich,” he told L’Equipe.
“But right now I don’t see myself at Barcelona or Real, or anywhere else. I’m happy in Spain.”
There have been suggestions that Griezmann’s future at Atletico could depend on the future of his manager Diego Simeone, who has been strongly linked with a move to Inter Milan in recent months.
Yet Griezmann’s has stressed that his eagerness to stay with Atletico will not be decided by the future of his boss.
“He will leave one day, and in the summer I called him up to check if he was going to stay on,” he said of Simeone.
“He told me of his plans for the season, that he wanted me to stay, and that made me feel happy, but we’re not inseparable.”
