US arming of Kurdish forces in Syria, unproductive: Analyst

Mike Harris, editor of Veterans Today, believes the US arming of Kurdish forces in Syria will not be productive, adding that Washington needs to step back and have a “diplomatic approach” to the conflict.

“If the US is sincere about fighting the terrorists, they need to cooperate with the government of [President] Bashar al-Assad and the Syrian Arab Army. That would be the most effective route to eliminating terrorism in Syria,” Harris told Press TV in an interview on Thursday.

The Pentagon announced on Tuesday that arming the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) is to “ensure a clear victory” in operations aimed at liberating the northern Syria city of Raqqah from the Daesh terrorist group.

The SDF is led by the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) which Turkey views as a terrorist organization over its alleged links to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
