Apparently we just don’t have enough time

Are you lazy when it comes to laundry? Apparently, us Brits aren’t as squeaky clean as we could be – with one in three gym-goers admitting to wearing the same workout clothes multiple times before washing them.
A new study by an online athleisure wear brand shows that many people are forced to re-wear exercise clothing before having a chance to wash it, with many saying they spray or iron garments instead in order to make them seem clean when they’re not.
The team at www.sculptmode.com took on the research as part of an investigative study into the fitness habits of Britons. They quizzed 2,381 participants – all of whom were aged 18 and over and had a gym membership – about their health and exercise regime. It was found that 31% of those included in the poll said they wore items two or three times before washing them – the most popular reason for doing so being ‘I didn’t get too sweaty’, closely followed by ‘I had no other clean items.’ 11% also added that they simply did not have enough time to wash their clothes between workouts. Commenting on the findings, Himmat Dhanda – founder of Sculptmode.com – said:
“We’ve all been there; you want to work out, but you’ve got no fresh clothes to hand. What do you do? It is OK to re-wear the clothes if the sessions are on the same day, or even an evening session followed by a morning session, but we wouldn’t recommend leaving them for a couple of days – you might not think you worked up a sweat, but that doesn’t mean you didn’t.”
“I would always recommend washing any type of gym kit every time after using it. Wash your clothes on a high wash of above 60°C each time. To ensure that you are killing the bacteria, you could also use an anti-bacterial laundry cleaner if you are washing below 60°C.”
It’s also important to wash other items of gym kit, such as water bottles, towels and bags, as these can harbour high levels of harmful bacteria.
