Turkish police on Monday detained 14 Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) officials and members of the Health and Social Workers Union in Ankara over their alleged ties to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), the Deutsche Welle Turkish service reported.

The state-run Anadolu news agency reported that the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office issued detention warrants for 16 people as part of an investigation into the PKK.

The HDP Ankara branch announced the police raids via Twitter in the early morning hours.

According to HDP Co-chair Sezai Temelli, more than 12,000 HDP members, including the former leaders Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ, are already behind bars.
