At least 16 people were killed and scores were left wounded in separate blasts that hit various districts of the Syrian capital of Damascus on Tuesday.
According to Al Arabiya, three bomb explosions rocked the district of Hai al-Wuroud, in the northwest of the capital, killing at least 15 people and wounding an unspecified number. The neighborhood, where the blasts occurred, is located near barracks that house elite army units.
Later in the day, an explosive-laden car went off in Damascus district of Qadam killing at least one person and wounding dozens, Xinhua news agency reported. The explosion took place near a local mosque and an electricity power station.
The Assad regime has been locked into a bloody conflict with anti-government rebel forces since March 2011. According to UN estimates, around 35,000 people have been killed since the violence began.
