An unidentified, armed man threatened Ahmet Doğan, head of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms Party in Bulgaria, during his speech at the party’s 8th routine meeting.
The suspect, who suddenly appeared on the platform and pointed a gun at Doğan, was immediately taken down by other party deputies, private broadcaster CNN Türk reported. Doğan was reportedly unharmed though he was shocked by the incident.
The suspect was detained and the meeting dispersed. Doğan’s speech will be distributed to delegates as a written statement.
The Movement for Rights and Freedoms, comprised mostly of Turks, is a centrist political party in Bulgaria that relies on the votes of the Muslim minority.
