Foreign-backed Takfiri militants in Syria have massacred civilians in villages near the port city of Lattakia as they were retreating from the region.

The militants raped women and abducted a several people including children, a Press TV correspondent reported on Saturday.

Lattakia and its surroundings have been purged of militants, who infiltrated the region to take control of the mountains by the sea to carve out a coastal path.

The Syrian Army has now cleared all the mountains of the region from foreign-backed militants, who are fighting against the government of President Bashar al-Assad.

Meanwhile, reports say Saudi Arabia has dispatched to Jordan weapons bought by the country’s Intelligence Chief Bandar Bin Sultan for the militants in Syria.

The militants who have sneaked into Syria via the Jordanian border are said to have been trained by the US military.

Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since 2011. A very large number of the militants operating inside Syria are reportedly foreign nationals.

According to reports, the West and its regional allies – especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey – are supporting the militants inside Syria.

The United Nations says more than 100,000 people have been killed and a total of 7.8 million others displaced since the outbreak of the violence in Syria.
