Another season of Scandal has come to a shocking (!) end, which means now we get to dissect and discuss this past season ad nauseam until it returns in the fall!
Fortunately, star Scott Foley has some new dish to spill about those love scenes between his character Jake Ballard and Olivia Pope, played by Kerry Washington.
It seems like a no-brainer, right? Pretend to be in love with Washington. Easy enough — except when you throw her real-life pregnancy in the mix.
“It makes things a little more difficult,” Foley admits to HuffPost Live. “There’s so many different things happening around you, whether it’s the light or the camera or the people and the guy fixing her bra or my hair. So it’s awkward to begin with and I don’t know if anyone truly enjoys it. But when you throw in a belly, on top of that, or underneath it depending on the position we’re in, it makes it even more so. So we’ve had to have some pretty lengthy conversations about how to shoot it, the positioning of our bodies. But that being said, it’s a challenge, it’s a riddle to figure out the answer to. It’s enjoyable, nonetheless.”
And what about Olivia’s decision to leave it all behind and fly off into the sunset with Jake — who can’t quite seem to get her to commit to him — what’s up with that?
“I think (Olivia) needed to get out. I think that, in her mind, taking Jake made leaving a little more comfortable. It’s such an interesting thing to do, isn’t it? When someone tells you they’re in love with someone else, to say, ‘It’s OK, I still want you.’ I don’t know if it’s a personal choice I’d make, but it was an interesting character choice to make for Jake, I thought.”
So, where exactly are they going?
Foley doesn’t know, but he does have a few suggestions.
“If I was Jake and had any say as to where that plane was going, I’d say the South Pacific somewhere. Bora Bora, Moorea, a beautiful reef somewhere, an island somewhere where there’s not a whole lot of anything. You know, spotty electricity, no phone no cable no Internet. Just away from it all…”
