Kate Upton on dealing with cheating boyfriends: The best form of revenge is to walk away

The stunning model and Hollywood actress, who stars in The Other Woman alongside Cameron Diaz, reveals even she has been betrayed and left heartbroken

Catwalk queen: Kate dazzles whatever she’s wearing

She regularly tops polls of the most adored and desirable women in the world.

Last year she won a model of the year title.

Online film clips that showcase her dancing have drawn simply millions of hits.

And now she’s even starring in a Hollywood movie.

But all this still hasn’t protected her from being betrayed when it comes to love, reveals Kate Upton.

“Yeah, I definitely have been cheated on,” she says with a shrug. “Everybody’s been through betrayal some way or another in their life. you’re heartbroken and you have to heal that.”

But instead of wallowing in self-pity, she has a rather grown-up way of getting her own back for one so young – she’s just 21.

“I personally think the best revenge is just walking away and not wasting another second of your time with someone who’s clearly emotionally handicapped,” she says.

“I think if someone hurts you in that way, it’s not your job to change him, and it’s not your job to be there while he’s finding himself, and finding who he is.

“So I think walking away and being who you need to be for the rest of your life is the most important thing.”

She won’t reveal just who has toyed so carelessly with her affections, but the subject of boyfriends and betrayal is at the heart of her new film, The Other Woman.

It’s the first time she has taken a lead role in a Hollywood movie, and she stars alongside Cameron Diaz and Leslie Mann, playing the role of Amber, who helps to wreak revenge on a cheating married man.

Kate’s legions of male fans will be happy to hear that rather than going for men like the very handsome Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays the dastardly womaniser, looks are not her priority when it comes to men.

“I love awkward, but cute,” she says, despite having been linked in the past to hunky American football stars Tim Tebow and Mark Sanchez, and previously dating baseball player Justin Verlander.

“The type of guy I like – I always kid – is I love a penguin,” she says.

But right now, she doesn’t have a lot of time for men as she’s busy branching out from her mega-successful modelling career and trying to forge a future in acting.

She says it’s been an uphill struggle to win good roles because of her catwalk background, but she’s determined not to give in.

“It’s exhausting to try and be taken seriously,” she says. “But I’m willing to commit to that – I’m willing to fight.”

Kate – the daughter of former Texas state tennis champion Shelley Upton and high school athletics director Jeff Upton – was just 16 when she was signed up by Elite Model Management after attending a casting call in Miami, where she was brought up.

She rapidly gained success, modelling for, among others, Victoria’s Secret and Sports Illustrated magazine.

Her fame skyrocketed in 2011 when a YouTube video showed her doing the Dougie – a dance popularised in a hip-hop tune – at a Los Angeles Clippers basketball game.

It went viral resulting in millions of hits.

In 2012 she became a regular magazine cover girl, and last year landed the title of Model of the year at the 10th Style awards at New York fashion week.

Kate has had a few fleeting movie roles, including in slapstick film The Three Stooges, but admits turning to acting has meant a steep learning curve.

She says of The Other Woman: “I learned so much from this movie. I’ve never really been on a set before. I’d never done it before. I took lessons for two years, but that’s not the same thing at all.

“I learned so much from Cameron and Leslie. I’m sure anybody who’s been in a room with them sees just how open they are and amazing they are, and I got to know them on a personal level.

“I think the most difficult part of filming is repeating yourself over and over. You might have a really good take, and you’re like, ‘All right, you guys, we killed it, let’s move on,’ they’re like, ‘No, no, no, no, no, no, 15 more times, do better every time’.”

Kate, whose stunning 36-25-34 figure is very different to skinnier models, also praises Cameron for her views expressed in the book she wrote, The Body Book.

“It’s a knowledge about your body and how you take care of your body and how you’re supposed to know your body on a cellular level, and that knowledge gives you power,” says Kate, who insists she’d never starve herself and keeps in shape through exercise.

That knowledge makes you love yourself. I just think everybody should be the best ‘them’. I think it’s sad if you feel insecure if you don’t look like somebody else.”

She was upset after reports last week suggested she’d said she “wanted smaller boobs”. She told her 1.3 million twitter followers that wasn’t the case and went on Australian radio to deny the comment.

“I actually never said that,” she said. “If someone actually cared to hear what I have to say about my own personal body… I would say that I feel like all women feel like they don’t have life perfect.

“Sometimes they don’t feel their best. But I love my body. I always feel incredibly grateful for what I have.”

And while speaking in Los Angeles to promote the film, she said: “I think that everybody has insecurities. There’s moments where you want to change something, but I love my body and this is what was given to me and I appreciate it.”

Referring to her big acting break she says: “You know I thought that it was beyond the perfect first role for me because I got an amazing cast around me.

“I really loved the character of Amber because I think a lot of people feel naive in their life, and I loved her positive outlook on everybody.”

Having got a taste for acting, Kate is now determined to make it big in movies. In fact she’s so set on conquering Hollywood she says she’d be prepared to gain weight or cut her long blonde hair if the script demanded it.

“I will do anything to make that character come alive,” she vows.

And such is her popularity, nothing is likely to put her fans off.
