A 15-month-old toddler in the US state of Minnesota has miraculously survived a fall from a balcony on the 11th floor of an apartment building in Minneapolis.
Musa Dayib, dubbed “the miracle baby” for surviving the huge plunge, fractured his two arms, his backbone and his ribs. He also suffered a concussion and is breathing through a ventilator.
Doctors say the young boy is in critical but stable condition and is expected to survive. Dr. Tina Slusher of the Hennepin County Medical Center where Musa is being treated, said he landed on a small patch of soil.
“If you and I fell that far, we would be dead,” Slusher said. “He’s a kid. So they tend to be more flexible and pliable than you and I would be. Having said that, it’s a real gift from God that he made it because this is a huge fall.”
The child’s mother was running errands while his father watched the boy and his 3-year-old sister. The father had gone briefly into another room when the boy fell.
The towering Cedar-Riverside apartments, a housing project in Minneapolis where the child fell, have more than 1,000 units and are mainly occupied by Somali immigrants.
