Iran forces kill PJAK terrorists near border: Cmdr.

Iranian military troops have killed a number of terrorists from the so-called Party for Free Life of Kurdistan (PJAK) group seeking to cross the western borders into the country, a senior Iranian commander says.

The PJAK terrorists were attempting to sneak explosives and munitions into the Iranian territory and “carry out certain acts,” but the country’s army forces managed to inflict heavy losses on them shortly after they crossed the border, said Commander of the Iranian Army’s Ground Forces Brigadier General Ahmadreza Pourdastan.

Many of the terrorists were killed or wounded in the operation, said the general.

“The units of the Ground Forces have been deployed to large swaths of the country’s western and southwestern borders and they enjoy very high capabilities in defending the borders,” according to the top commander.

PJAK is an offshoot of the internationally-recognized terrorist group, the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which conducts deadly operations in western Iran, northern Iraq and southern Turkey.

Members of the terrorist group regularly engage in armed clashes with Iranian security forces along the country’s western border with Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan region.
