Moscow thinks it is necessary to continue the contacts between representatives of southeastern Ukraine and Kiev authorities, which started on June 23, so they lead to certain results – stopping violence and beginning dialogue, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin told Interfax.

“The mere fact of a meeting between representatives of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions with the three – Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) chairperson-in-office representative Heidi Tagliavini, former Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma and Russian Ambassador in Kiev Mikhail Zurabov – and head of the Ukrainian Choice public organization Viktor Medvedchuk is a promising start,” he said.

At the same time, “it is very important that this process continues and leads to certain results – firstly, stopping bloodshed and starting real dialogue between the Kiev authorities and southeast,” Karasin said. The next round of consultations on peaceful conflict settlement will take place on June 27 the earliest and it will be held in Donetsk most probably, Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) Deputy Prime Minister Andriy Purgin said on Tuesday.

It is hoped that negotiations on peaceful resolution of the conflict might begin by June 27, DPR Prime Minister Alexander Borodai said on June 23. Multilateral consultations between representatives of Ukraine, the self-proclaimed DPR and Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR), and Russia took place in the Donetsk regional state administration on June 23.

The consultations involved Russian Ambassador to Ukraine Mikhail Zurabov, Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) chairperson-in-office representative Heidi Tagliavini, second Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma, head of the Ukrainian Choice public movement Viktor Medvedchuk, Borodai, leader of the South-East movement Oleg Tsaryov and LPR representatives.
