Non-state armed groups in Syria have used children as young as 15 to fight in battles, sometimes recruiting them under the guise of offering education, Human Rights Watch said in its report.
The groups have also used children as young as 14 in support roles. Extremist Islamist groups including the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), sometimes referred to as the Islamic State of Iraq and Sham (ISIS), have specifically recruited children through free schooling campaigns that include weapons training, and have given them dangerous tasks, including suicide bombing missions
The report was based on the experiences of 25 child soldiers who were involved in ISIL, the Free Syrian Army, the Islamic Front, Syria’s al-Qaeda affiliate al-Nusra Front and Kurdish forces.
The teenagers interviewed by HRW said they took part in combat, worked as snipers, spied, cared for the wounded, or carried munitions or other supplies to the front line.
All the children probed were boys, but the Kurdish Democratic Union party also recruits girls to work at the checkpoints.
Human Rights Watch urged Islamic Militants to stop enlisting teenagers in their ranks and warned their foreign backers that they could be implicated in war crimes,
But US political commentator Mark Dankoff told Radio VR that it is US’ CIA and Israeli Mossad who are, in fact, backing up these groups.
“These Wahabi and Takfiri extremists are the same people who had executed 1,700 Iraqi soldiers inTikrit. These are the same people who had been beheading and crucifying Syrian Christians in that country. So, this is entirely consistent with the modus operandi of these people,” he told Radio VR.
“But what this Human Rights Watch report does not say, is that basically this ISIL organization comprised of these Wahabi and Takfiri extremists is being heavily backed and has been heavily backed for a long time by the United States and Israel, by Saudi Arabia and Gulf Cooperation Council states and Turkey, essentially to vulcanize that country as part of the larger geopolitical agenda. The Washington Post has admitted this in the past .And Seymour Hersh, the long-time and respected journalist from The New Yorker indicates that the relationship with the US and Israel and Saudi Arabia and Turkey to this organization is quite provable. It is very sorted And it is very disturbing to me as an American that we are intervening this way in Syria and using this kind of people there.”
Mark Dankoff pointed out one interesting detail: there is a southern Syrian city called Daraa, near the Jordanian border, and it was mentioned in the report. The number of these kids who were interviewed, come from this particular southern Syrian town. It has come out repeatedly in reputable sources that right across from Daraa in southern Syria there is a CIA/Israeli camp in Jordan that has been working very heavily with this type Syrian extremists, training these people, giving them covert logistical and financial support in order to enter Syria and to enter Daraa, in order to simply go from there and conduct whatever terrorist activities they are going to conduct. So, these kids indicated that they were from that town in southern Syria, which is conveniently right across the border from this CIA/Israeli Mossad outpost in Jordan.
“Perhaps some of these children are being deliberately abducted and coerced, against their will participating in these activities,” said Mark Dankoff . “The others are gullible and are simply emotionally and ideologically vulnerable to manipulation by these Wahabi and Takfiri extremists – it is really hard to say for me as an American living in Texas. But the important thing is that they are there and are conducting these activities and it is simply morally atrocious that the US is directly and indirectly involved in this.”
“I think if there were a concerted and legitimate effort to publicize this and to get it stopped, we would have some degree of improvement in this area,” he further supposed. “But I find it very interesting that on the day when all of this was coming out, the European Union has brought forth new sanctions against 12 members of President Assad’s Syrian government council for “Syrian human rights violations.”
“So, what we have is a situation where presumably the EU is focusing on President Assad, whose country is under foreign siege and foreign attack, attempting to isolate him as a source of the problem when in fact that is totally false and that the preponderance of the evidence shows that these Wahabi and Takfiri extremists both in Syria and in Iraq are principally the problem and that many of these people are former mercenaries that had been imported into both Syria and Iraq by the US CIA, the Israeli Mossad and the Saudi Arabians.”
