Greece experiences power cuts as electricity workers strike

Various parts of Greece are experiencing power cuts, as workers from the Public Power Corporation strike in protest at a government privatisation programme.

The Greek parliament is debating a bill that would allow the government to sell off 30 percent of the country’s biggest electricity producer, euronews reports.

Strikes have been planned over this move, sparking fears of power outages. The Greek government has said there is “no way” it is canceling the sale of part of the company.

13 power plants were not working by Thursday afternoon, and staggered cuts in supplies were due to start depending on demand, Ta Nea newspaper said.
