Hurricane Arthur gains category two – US meteorologists

Hurricane Arthur strengthened to category two on the five-point Saffir-Simpson scale as it barreled down the US East Coast on Thursday, meteorologists said.

At 01:00 GMT, the first named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season was packing maximum winds of 100 miles (160 kilometers) per hour and was located about 55 miles east-northeast of Cape Fear, North Carolina, the National Hurricane Center said, reports AFP.
