‘I was disappointed Adele’s voice didn’t come out’ Keira Knightley on singing in new film

FILM Star Keira Knightley has admitted that she was terrified when she was told she would have to sing in her new film, and admitted that she was waiting for a great voice to come out.

The actress, who is famous for her roles in period dramas, opened up about her experience on set of Begin Again, joking that she was hoping that a voice as good as Adele’s would suddenly belt out of her.

“I’m not a singer so I have no idea what I’m doing,” she told Ben Shephard on Good Morning Britain.

“I’m really disappointed that Adele’s voice doesn’t come out! I think that’s what I was hoping the whole way through that suddenly Shirley Bassey, one of those big [voices] – so I’m just like, ‘ok’!”

The 29-year-old also went on to reveal that her husband James Righton, who is in The Klaxons, has been tolerable of her music efforts, despite not being very good.

“The thing about my husband is he’s the loveliest person in the world so he’s just like ‘well done’,” she said.

“He did try and teach me to play the guitar – which didn’t work very well.”

She continued; “I could play the guitar – I did learn to play all the songs on the guitar but I couldn’t sing and play at the same time because that’s really difficult – who knew that that was so difficult! I don’t think my husband had a lot of patience with me not being able to do that.”

The Bend it like Beckham star went on to reveal who she is rooting for at the World Cup telling Ben; “I’m really excited about Belgium – I don’t think they are going to win but I’m really excited about it, I think they’ll come close. Germany… it’s got to be their time really – I mean they looked good didn’t they?”

In Begin Again she plays Gretta, and the movie tells the story of a woman who is dumped by her college sweetheart and left devastated, but ends up meeting a disgraced record-label executive who is immediately captivated by her raw talent.

From this chance encounter emerges an enchanting portrait of a mutually transformative collaboration, set to the soundtrack of a summer in New York City.

The film was originally called Can A Song Save Your Life? but was changed for some reason.

Scarlett Johansson was orginally cast as the lead, but dropped out – leading the way for Keira to take centre stage.
