Pak-Australia agree to enhance bilateral trade to US $ 1 billion

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Australia have agreed to enhance bilateral trade to US $ 1 billion during next year.

Agreement to this effect was made at the conclusion of recently held Pak- Australia Joint Trade Committee meeting held at Canbera Australia.

Commerce Minister Khurram Dastagir Khan said that the economic and political relationship between the democratically elected governments of Pakistan and Australian were progressing.

“In this connection the recently held successful joint trade committee meeting between the two countries was a step in this direction” he said in a statement issued by the Ministry of Commerce here today.

The Commerce Minister highlighting the decisions of the meeting said that it had been decided to enhance bilateral trade to US $ 1 billion in the next year.

He added that Australia would also cooperate with Pakistan for enhancing technical capabilities in boosting the agricultural products exports, besides creating opportunities for agriculture sector in this regard.

Khurram Dastagir Khan said that Australia was one of the biggest exporters for agriculture products and with the help of the country government was making efforts for increasing income of our farmers by increasing their exports.

Besides, the minister said Australian Government would also provide technical assistance to Ministry of Commerce in re-organization of the ministry.

The Pak-Australia joint trade committee has also decided to enhance bilateral cooperation in providing technical training education in engineering, services and energy sectors.

A committee has also been formed to see the implementation of the decisions of the meeting in which Ministry of Commerce, representatives of Australian High Commission in Pakistan and Board of Investment members.
