CSTO, EEC to tackle illegal migration

The Collective Security Treaty Organization intends to start cooperating with the Eurasian Economic Commission for the sake of counteracting illegal migration. The topic will be discussed at the session of the Coordinating council of heads of agencies in charge of fighting illegal migration in the CSTO member states in Yerevan, Armenia on 5 February, CSTO Press Secretary Vladimir Zainetdinov told BelTA.

Participants of the session will discuss the organization within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization and actual joint operative and preventive measures and special operations to counteract illegal migration. The session will also table activities of the Eurasian Economic Commission in the sphere of illegal migration and possible avenues of cooperation with the CSTO secretariat. The session will also air common approaches to counteracting illegal migration in view of the launch of the Eurasian Economic Union, noted the source.

High on the agenda will be novelties in the regulations on recruiting and using foreign labor force in Russia. Participants of the session will also discuss the creation of a CSTO-wide system to handle refugees and persons seeking refuge. Apart from that, the Council will discuss joint actions in anticipation of the possible arrival of refugees from Afghanistan en masse.

Taking part in the session will be Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Nikolai Bordyuzha, heads of the agencies in charge of fighting illegal migration in Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan in addition to representatives of the Eurasian Economic Commission, the CIS Executive Committee, and the Moscow office of the International Organization for Migration.
