About half-a-decade since its release, people are no doubt still coming up to you every now and then and recommending you read Patti Smith’s Just Kids. Well, get prepared to hear the following news from those people in about 5-10 years.
Smith is following up that National Book Award-winning memoir with another memoir, titled M Train, which is due out in October.
As EW reports, the punk icon describes the new book as “a roadmap to my life”, adding this largely atmospheric elaboration:
Pausing at 18 different “stations” throughout, the book is about Smith’s deepest literary obsessions, as well as “the inevitable losses that come to us in life—and the consolation we might salvage from them.”
Sure, why not.
The book’s cover shows Smith at Cafe ‘Ino in Greenwich Village, the opening “station” in M Train – a place “where Smith went every morning for a breakfast of black coffee and brown bread”, the site notes. The pic was taken on the last day before Cafe ‘Ino closed.
Apparently they had really good “truffled egg toast“. No wonder she looks so sad.
