The handsome star and the Swedish actress were first linked after meeting on the set of their movie The Light Between Oceans last year. While both are known for keeping their personal lives private, they were spotted looking smitten as they enjoyed the Formula One Grand Prix in Monte Carlo, Monaco, back in May.
However, just nine months after their romance blossomed Us Weekly claims the pair have gone their separate ways.
Michael, 38, is no stranger to dating his co-stars, previously having relationships with his younger X-Men co-star Zoë Kravitz, 26, before getting involved with Shame actress Nicole Beharie.
It’s unsure why things didn’t work out between him and Alicia, but the German-Irish hunk has previously admitted his career goals have often prevented him settling down.
“I’m kind of selfish with the hours that I put into the work,” he told GQ magazine in late 2013. “I think the longest relationship that I’ve been in was two years… I started doing this when I was 17, so I guess in my dating, adult life, that kind of covers it.”
However, he also noted that it has become easier for him to meet women since becoming a Hollywood star, joking a female wouldn’t have stood and listened to what he had to say beforehand.
Alicia meanwhile is fairly new to the showbiz scene but is already impressing with her onscreen performances. Fans can next see her in The Danish Girl alongside Eddie Redmayne and Amber Heard. The movie, based on the gender reassignment of artist Einar Wegener in the early 1900s, is already generating Oscar buzz.
