The Turkish military shelled Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) targets in northern Syria on Aug. 23, after two mortar shells from Syria hit the southeastern province of Gaziantep.  The military fired 40 shells at four ISIL targets in Syria in response to the mortar fire from across the border.
Two mortar shells hit the garden of a lodging belonging to a mosque in the Karkamış district close to the border facing the Syrian town of Jarabulus early on Aug. 23.
No casualties were reported in the incident.
Meanwhile, security forces blocked access to the neighborhood as the municipality warned locals not to leave their homes.
