An Avenger, a Ghostbuster and now… an ’80s icon
It sounds like Very Bad Things meets Weekend At Bernies. It stars some of our favourite people acting in movies right now, and it just gained a very cool new cast member.
Female-led ensemble comedy Rock That Body is quietly shaping up to be one of the most exciting projects around.
Directed by Broad City writer, director and producer Lucia Aniello, the film stars Scarlett Johansson, aka Black Widow from the Avengers, Kate McKinnon, our favourite Ghostbuster, as well as X-(wo)man Zoe Kravitz.
And now the news has come that ’80s icon Demi Moore will also star. She’s probably best known for movies like St. Elmo’s Fire and About Last Night as well as ’90s hits like Ghost and Indecent Proposal.
The plot sees a bachelorette party go awry at a Miami Beach house when a male stripper is killed.
Aniello’s script was included in the 2015 Black List – the film industry’s best unproduced scripts of the year.
Rock That Body is shooting right now and not due out ’til 2017. It feels like it’s slipped somewhat under the radar but with the pedigree it currently has, this could be a really interesting and subversive movie.
It’ll be the first big movie role for McKinnon post-Ghostbusters, where she was something of a break out star. And Johansson pretty much has her pick of projects these days (unless she wants to pick a standalone Black Widow movie, in which case, err sorry, no).
Meawhile Aniello is also down to write a female spin-off to 21 Jump Street. With the news that the Jump Street/MiB crossover is almost certainly not happening now, it’s possible that this universe expansion could be the next thing for the Jump Street series.
Rock That Body is set to open in cinemas in the UK on June 23, 2017.
