Former British glamour model suspected of being groomed by Isis as ‘jihadist bride’

Kimberley Miners admitted she has been in contact with an Islamic State recruiter in Syria.

A 27-year-old former glamour model from Bradford is suspected of being groomed by the Islamic State (Isis) to become a jihadist bride. Kimberley Miners has reportedly adopted Islam and communicates with an IS (Deash) recruiter in Syria through Facebook.

The woman uses the alias Aisha Lauren al-Britaniya for her social media profile, The Sunday Times reported. Her “liking” and sharing of IS videos on Facebook has reportedly come under the scanner and she has been questioned by anti-terrorist police and MI5 up to four times.

Police have also warned Miners that she could be arrested if she continued to engage in extremism. However, the former model who has posed topless for The Sun in the past, claimed she does not support IS brutalities and was drawn towards Syria because of the plight of the children there. She also denied having any aspiration of marrying a jihadist.

The Times report stated that Miners has posted images of Muslim women brandishing rifles and other weapons on her social media account. She has also reportedly posted her own pictures in Muslim outfits. However, when going out in the city, she wears western outfits and leaves her face and hair uncovered, apparently because she was abused when she went out in the traditional veiled Islamic costume.

Miners has admitted that she is in contact with an IS recruiter called Abu Usamah al-Britani on Facebook, who is said to be recruiting women for the terror organisation. The recruiter is reportedly a British national, who is now fighting for the militant group in Syria. “He was saying, ‘If you can leave England, then just leave’,” she said the recruiter had told her once.

Miners recently revealed she has plans to travel to Turkey this autumn and has gone there twice on “holiday” in October 2015. Turkey is reportedly the most common route to enter Syria. She said that both times during her Turkey visit, she ended up in a refugee camp.

“I remember seeing a three-year-old and a little baby at the side of the road,” Miners was quoted by the paper as saying about her experience in Turkey. “I felt like I needed to carry on telling everyone this is what’s really going on. I just want to help the children . . . it’s so sad what they’re going through,” she added.

Miners said her interest in Islam was sparked in 2015 as she found peace through it. She lost her father in 2010, following which she reportedly sought refuge in the company of some Muslim friends. However, she is said to have been extensively sharing videos of IS brutalities in the recent past, triggering an enquiry into her social media activities.

“I’ve shared a lot of bombs and stuff; I’ve shared a lot of videos,” she admitted and said she has been told IS is there “to protect the religion”.

“I don’t really know; that’s what’s got me into trouble,” the former glamour model said, condemning the brutal beheadings of captives and others by the terror organisation.

“I’ve gone from glamour model to something completely different,” she reportedly said, adding: “but that again makes me wonder. You don’t get shit for wearing nowt, but the second you start wearing [the veil] you get accused [of extremism] and stuff.”
