GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump holds a 2-point lead over his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton among likely voters, according to a CNN/ORC poll released Tuesday.
Mr. Trump was at 45 percent and Mrs. Clinton was at 43 percent among likely voters, with Libertarian Party presidential nominee Gary Johnson at 7 percent and Green Party nominee Jill Stein at 2 percent, according to the poll.
Head-to-head, Mr. Trump had a 1-point, 49 percent to 48 percent, lead over Mrs. Clinton among likely voters.
Mrs. Clinton had held an 8-point lead over Mr. Trump in a CNN/ORC survey of registered voters taken right after the Democratic National Convention in July.
Among a broader pool of registered voters in the new poll, Mrs. Clinton had a 3-point, 44 percent to 41 percent, lead over Mr. Trump, with Mr. Johnson at 9 percent and Ms. Stein at 3 percent. Head-to-head, Mrs. Clinton led Mr. Trump by 2 points, 48 percent to 46 percent.
Ninety percent of Republicans backed Mr. Trump and 92 percent of Democrats backed Mrs. Clinton, while Mr. Trump held a 20-point, 49 percent to 29 percent, advantage over the former secretary of state among independents.
