Film star and comedian Amy Schumer has been hospitalised for a bout of food poisoning during a trip to Paris with her boyfriend, a situation she nevertheless managed to mine for humour.
The 35-year-old New York born stand-up comic and actress revealed her plight via Instagram.
“Thanks for everything Paris! Except the food poisoning,” she said.
The post was accompanied by an image of Schumer and her boyfriend Ben Hanisch looking unwell in bed.
Later, as Schumer’s condition worsened, she was transferred to hospital.
“No red flags with this girl,” she wrote, on a post which featured several images of her being wheeled into hospital.
Still mining her predicament for its comedy value, Schumer posted a video in which she played herself taping a mock advertisement for a singles website.
“My name is Amy, I’m 35, I love grabbing life by its horns and experiencing everything and I love music and food,” she said from her hospital bed.
“I really just want someone to share all of that with, so, I’m taking a chance,” she added.
Schumer is best known for her own signature television series Inside Amy Schumer and for the hit comedy film Trainwreck.
Prior to her bout of food poisoning, Schumer had been enjoying a European summer, holidaying in Paris with Hanisch, a 29-year-old Chicago-based furniture designer.
Earlier this year, Hanisch accompanied Schumer to the White House for President Obama’s address on gun violence, in which he called for a “sense of urgency” in tackling the issue.
Schumer is a supporter of laws restricting access to guns in the US, spurred into action in the wake of a shooting which took place in Louisana at a screening of Trainwreck.
The couple have been dating since the beginning of the year.
“Sometimes in life you get extremely lucky, and the smartest, funniest, most beautiful woman comes along when you least expect it,” Hanish wrote on his social media account in January.
