Oblivious Syrian rebels blow themselves up taking selfie with explosive phone

THIS is the shocking moment when a Syrian rebel and his comrades blow themselves up using an explosive-rigged phone to take a selfie.

The gang of Syrian rebels had been busy trying to arrange a group photo when they absent-mindedly set off a bomb.

The oblivious militants gathered around a camera and began to smile for the photo.

But, none of them realised that the phone used for their selfie was actually a rigged explosive.

Shocking footage of the event has gone viral.

The eight militants from the Free Syrian Army strike a pose in front of a rebel flag for the camera.

They are armed with rifles propped up in the room and they can even be heard singing an anthem just a second before a huge explosion rocked the room.

The moment the man hits the lethal shutter button a bomb rips through the building.

The blast sends the camera flying as the rebels can be heard screaming in the background.

Flames and smoke obscure the camera’s view following the bomb blast.

By the time the dust clears, the camera, blown backwards onto the floor, points towards a ceiling fan.

Some of rebels can be heard shouting ‘Allahu Akbar’ – meaning ‘God is great’.

They jump over the camera to help their comrades, meaning at least some escaped unhurt.

The video, uploaded onto social media, has not been verified and it remains unclear how many of those involved died or were injured in the blast.

Syrian freedom fighters have often used mobile devices to remote control explosives during the ongoing civil war between the rebel groups, ISIS and Bashar al-Assad’s brutal regime.

The Free Syrian Army is allied with the coalition of western nations – including the US, UK and France.
