Turkey has no eye on any country’s territory: Army chief Hulusi Akar

Turkey has no eye on any other country’s territories and its recent cross-border operation into northern Syria is based on its right to self-defense, Turkish Chief of General Staff Hulusi Akar has said.
“The Euphrates Shield operation, which was kicked off shortly after the July 15 coup attempt, has vital importance for the security and peace of our borders, for the people of our neighbors, and for our nation. The Turkish Armed Forces and the Republic of Turkey have no eye on any other countries’ territory,” Akar said speaking at an official Veteran’s Day event on Sept. 19.

The chief of general staff also stated that the Turkish army is benefiting from the wide-scale “cleansing of traitors” following the coup attempt.

“The Turkish military is successfully carrying out every given duty as it is getting stronger because traitors are being cleared from the army,” Akar said.

He also vowed that the struggle against terrorist organizations would continue in “harmony and coordination” between the gendarmerie, the police and village guards “until the last terrorist is cleared from Turkey.”
