YEREVAN, February 23. /ARKA/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan chaired today a meeting of the Military-Industrial Commission, emphasizing the development of the military-industrial complex, describing it as one of the government’s priorities.
“We have to be able to achieve major changes and results in this area. To do so, it is necessary to make structural changes and find possibilities for a substantial increase in financing of this industry,” said Pashinyan.
According to him, for the development of the military-industrial complex, it is necessary to have a clearly functioning scientific potential, private investment and an effective government administration.
He said the creation of the Ministry of High Technology Industry is an important but not sufficient condition for making serious changes in this area. The prime minister also stressed the importance of effective cooperation between scientific potential and the ministry of defense for correct determination of the purpose of the government finding.
He said when discussing problems, the stakeholders should not concentrate on the difficulties in solving the problems, but formulate goals and act on the basis of their priority. ‘The geopolitical and military-industrial situation that has formed in the region does not allow us to live by the logic that things will settle one way or another,’ he said.
According to Pashinyan, one should work on the development of one’s own resources, and in this matter one should be merciless, first of all, in relation to oneself. He explained that the government will have to make serious, albeit unpopular decisions in order to make sure that there are no government agencies which receive state funding but do nothing.
“We need to be able to offer truly technological solutions: roughly speaking, it’s not the tank that is important, but the task that we want to solve by means of the tank. The idea should be to find a tool that solves the problem no matter how it is called. We need to understand the tasks and means, and then move out from the zone of traditional ideas about the tasks and tools in order to achieve a certain technological progress,” he stressed.
