YEREVAN, April 26. /ARKA/. Liver transplantation from a live donor has been carried out in Armenia for the first time ever, Healthcare Minister Arsen Torosyan said Thursday at a regular Cabinet meeting. He said the transplantation was carried out at the Astghik Medical Center in Yerevan by local specialists with assistance of Russian colleagues. The donor and patient were daughter and mother.
The minister said that this segment of medicine is planned to be developed in Armenia, since there is demand for kidney and liver transplantation in the country. More than that – this will be included in the government budget spending for 2020.
“Such surgeries abroad cost around $100,000, and state assistance will help many citizens,” Torosyan said.
