Baku/24.10.19/Turan: Recent media accusations that the United States is somehow interested in destabilizing Azerbaijan are false and absurd. We appreciate the retractions and removals of those related articles and broadcasts.
Since Azerbaijan”s independence, the United States has supported an independent, stable, prosperous, and democratic Azerbaijan. Over the past 26 years we”ve provided more than $1.5 billion in assistance that has made a positive difference in the lives of countless Azerbaijanis. This includes help in improving security, healthcare, agriculture, civil society, economic development, women”s entrepreneurship, tourism, and education.
Beginning with the signing of the contract of the century 25 years ago and continuing through construction of the Southern Gas Corridor, the United States has always supported Azerbaijan”s independence and sovereign right to develop and export Azerbaijan”s energy resources on its own terms.
As a Co-Chair of the OSCE”s Minsk Group, the United States is committed to working with the sides toward a peaceful solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Since 1993, we have provided more than $125 million in support for those people in Azerbaijan who have been displaced by the conflict.
We value our partnership and friendship with the government and people of Azerbaijan. We look forward to continuing to deepen our cooperation in the years to come, for the mutual benefit of both our peoples.
