YEREVAN, November 6. /ARKA/. The number of foreign tourists visiting Armenia in the first 9 months of 2019 grew by 14.4%, according to numbers, released today by the National Statistical Committee (NSC). Overall, some 1,459,152 foreign tourists visited Armenia in that time span.
Earlier, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said there were all grounds to expect the tourism industry to keep on double digit growth rate in 2020 as well.
According to official statistics, the number of foreign tourists, visiting Armenia in the first half of 2019 grew by 12.3%, when 770,055 tourists visited the country. At the same time, 1,651,782 foreign tourists visited Armenia in 2018, which was 10.5% more than in 2017.
According to The Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Report 2019, compiled by experts of the World Economic Forum (WEF), in 2019 Armenia ranked 79th among 140 countries in terms of the competitiveness of tourism and travel, up from the 84th place in the previous report for 2017.
