Armenia’s exports of agricultural products amount to over 141,2000 metric tons in 2019

YEREVAN, December 24. /ARKA/. Armenia’s exports of agricultural products in 2019 amounted to over 141,2000 metric tons, Deputy Economy Minister Artak Kamalyan told reporters on Tuesday. According to him, growth was recorded in almost the entire range of products.

He said exports of apricots stood at 31,000 tons, down from 51,000 tons in 2018, however, exports of cucumbers surged by 3 times, that of eggplant – by 1.5 times, ensuring an average growth of 1.5 -1.7 times.

He said according to the ministry’s forecasts, this year’s exports will make 97-98% of what was in 2018.
He said the drop is to be blamed largely on climatic conditions. He also mentioned the lack of a clear database – how much of land is cultivated. what is the crop yields and others.

“Our agriculture does not meet the requirements of the 21st century, there are only a few rare examples of the modern agriculture, but many are still in the 19th century,” Kamalyan said.

He said apart from that the sector also sustains annual damage from hailstorms estimated at 12-14 billion drams per year, although the installment of anti-hail systems can reduce it by 80% to 3 billion drams. “Our plans include raising the organic agriculture output to more than 5% by 2029,” Kamalyan said.
