First coronavirus case diagnosed in north Cyprus

A German tourist has become the first person in breakaway Turkish Republic of North Cyprus to be diagnosed with COVID-19, the new coronavirus strain that has swept across the world since breaking out in China’s Wuhan province in December, Turkish state-run Anadolu news agency reported.

The German woman’s diagnosis came a day after the first two cases of coronavirus were reported in the Republic of Cyprus that governs the south of the partitioned island.

With coronavirus now in Cyprus, yet another country in close proximity to Turkey has recorded incidents of the disease. Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said on Monday that the virus had still not reached Turkey, and urged citizens returning from abroad to self-quarantine.
