Armenian defense minister and Artsakh president discussed defense cooperation


YEREVAN, April 20. /ARKA/. Armenian Minister of Defense David Tonoyan held an informal meeting on Saturday with the newly elected Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) President Araik Harutyunyan, the press service of the ministry reported.

It said Tonoyan congratulated Harutyunyan on his election as president and wished him success. Tonoyan was quoted as saying that the armed forces of Armenia, together with the Artsakh Defense Army, will continue to strengthen the safe and peaceful development of the Armenian people.

During the meeting, issues related to the implementation of a number of current and planned programs aimed at cooperation in the field of defense and strengthening defense capabilities were discussed.

Araik Harutyunyan was elected president in the second round of presidential election on April 14, having won 88% of the vote. The self-nominated Masis Mayilyan won 12%.
