YEREVAN, July 15. /ARKA/. Ukrainian Ambassador to Armenia Ivan Kuleba was invited today to the Foreign Ministry in connection with a statement issued by the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the escalation of tension on the Armenian-Azerbaijan border.
The ambassador was received by Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan, who presented to the ambassador Armenia’s assessment of the Ukrainian statement.
During the meeting, the deputy minister also presented to the ambassador information about violations of the ceasefire regime by the Azerbaijani side, the ongoing attacks on Armenian civilian infrastructures and civilians, and the situation resulting from aggressive actions launched by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces on July 12 in the north-eastern direction of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border Azerbaijan.
In the statement the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry expressed “deep concern over the aggravation of the situation on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border, which led to shelling on July 12, 2020 in the direction of (Azerbaijani) Tovuz.”
It urged the parties to continue to seek ways to resolve the conflict peacefully on the basis of universally recognized principles and norms of international law.
The statement also noted that “the Ukrainian side advocates a political settlement of the situation on the basis of respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan within its internationally recognized borders.”
