YEREVAN, September10. /ARKA/. Both the birth and death rates increased in Armenia in the first half of 2020 compared to the same period in 2019, according to the National Statistical Committee (NSC).
According to NSC, some 19,530 babies were born in January-June 2020, up from 19,372 newborns in the first half of 2019. The growth rate was 0.8%.
During the reported period, 17,136 people died in Armenia, up from 15,793 deaths reported in the same period in 2019. The growth rate was 8.5%.
More than half of them (53.2%) died of blood circulatory system diseases, and 18.6% died of neoplasm. According to official figures, 781 people died from coronavirus, which was 4.6% of the total deaths.
