YEREVAN, October 5. / ARKA /. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, in an interview with German newspaper BILD, commented on the likelihood of Russian military assistance to Armenia.
In response to a question whether the Russian army will help Armenia, the prime minister said that the Russian 102nd military base is stationed in the country.
“We have a joint air defense system agreement which clearly formulates in which cases it can also be used to ensure the security of Armenia,” he explained. He also answered the question about when that could happen.
“These are specific cases stipulated by the agreement. I am sure that if these cases arise, Russia will fulfill its treaty obligations,” he said.
According to Armenian military sources, more than 3.4 thousand Azerbaijani soldiers have been killed in the fighting that was started by Azerbaijan on September 27 morning and about 4.3 thousand have been wounded. The Artsakh armed forces have destroyed about 380 tanks and armored vehicles, 4 Smerch, Uragan multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS), 3 TOS-1A MLRS, 113 UAVs, 17 helicopters and 14 warplanes.
According to the defense ministries of Armenia and Artsakh, during the repulse of the aggression, more than 200 Armenian servicemen have been killed and several hundred wounded. –
