(Re-leads with correction to total number of migrants)
Turkish authorities detained on Sunday 72 irregular migrants in the eastern province of Van, news site Diken reported.
Authorities stopped a van carrying the migrants following a tip off, Diken said. Two of the migrants were found dead inside the over-crowded vehicle.
Thirty-seven of the migrants are Pakistan nationals, 33 from Afghanistan and two from Iraq, it said.
Three people accused of smuggling the migrants have been taken into police custody.
Turkey has been a key transit point for irregular migrants from countries in the region looking to cross over into Europe.
In July, a boat carrying 60 migrants sank on Turkey’s Lake Van. All of the migrants were killed in the accident.
