Russian and Armenian foreign minister discussed a way out of hostilities in Karabakh


YEREVAN, October 5. /ARKA/. Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov had a telephone conversation with his Armenian counterpart Zohrab Mnatsakanyan on Sunday, the press service of the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

It said the two men focused on issues related to finding a way out of the ongoing hostilities in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone.

Lavrov was said to have expressed concern over the increase in casualties among the civilian population. The need for an early ceasefire was noted.

The two men reaffirmed their readiness to assist the parties in returning the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement process to the political and diplomatic channel under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs in accordance with the joint statement of the presidents of Russia, the United States and France.

According to Armenian military sources, more than 3.4 thousand Azerbaijani soldiers have been killed in the fighting that was started by Azerbaijan on September 27 morning and about 4.3 thousand have been wounded. The Artsakh armed forces have destroyed about 380 tanks and armored vehicles, 4 Smerch, Uragan multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) , 3 TOS-1A MLRS, 113 UAVs, 17 helicopters and 14 warplanes.

According to the defense ministries of Armenia and Artsakh, during the repulse of the aggression, more than 200 Armenian servicemen have been killed and several hundred wounded. -0-
