MHP leader calls on deputies to act in line with People’s Alliance policies

Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Leader Devlet Bahçeli has urged his deputies to act in line with the stance of the People’s Alliance, which the nationalist party established with the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP).

“I specifically want you to follow the stance and consciousness of the People’s Alliance in the new legislative period, to act in unison and to react with common sense to possible provocations,” he said on Oct. 6, addressing at the MHP’s parliament group meeting.

Elaborating on the tensions in Upper Karabakh, Bahçeli said the Armenian attack on Azerbaijan was tantamount to attacking Turkey. “The only solution in the southern Caucasus is Armenia’s unconditional withdrawal from occupied territories.”

Azerbaijan’s sovereignty should be affirmed in Upper Karabakh, he asserted. “There is no other remedy, no other choice, and no other solution.”

Bahçeli also urged NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg to warn Greece over its “transgressions” in the eastern Mediterranean.  Greece’s unfair moves should be officially discussed in Brussels and be “confirmed” there, he said.

“Turkey will not negotiate its interests,” Bahçeli stated, calling on Athens to avoid testing Ankara’s patience.
