YEREVAN, October 19. /ARKA/. Artsrun Hovhannisyan, a spokesman for Armenia’s defense ministry, told a press briefing late on October 18 that hostilities continued in the northern and southern front lines since early morning with Azerbaijani troops attempting to attack in the southern direction – but they were defeated and thrown back.
Hovhannisyan said attempts were made by Azerbaijani troops to conduct offensive actions in two different operational sectors in the northern direction.
“In one of the directions, having come under the powerful fire of the Armenian artillery, the enemy forces fled and were thrown back, having lost a significant number of equipment and a large number of ammunition. In the other direction, defensive battles continued,” he said.
Hovhannisyan said that now combat operations were conducted with a high intensity of fire, and the loss or capture of positions, invented or real heights does not mean anything.
“A war is being waged with the use of modern technologies, and no hostilities are being conducted to maintain static positions, Hovhannisyan said. Hovhannisyan said also that 9 UAVs were downed during the day, two of which in Armenia’s air space.
According to Armenian military sources, some 6,109 Azerbaijani soldiers have been killed since September 27 when Azerbaijan attacked Nagorno-Karabakh and thousands have been wounded. Armenian forces have also destroyed 554 tanks and armored vehicles, 4 MLRS Smerch, Uragan, TOS-1A, over 190 UAVs, 16 helicopters, 22 aircraft.
