YEREVAN, October 21. /ARKA/. Artsrun Hovhannisyan, spokesman for the Armenian defense ministry, presented at a briefing on Tuesday the situation on the Artsakh war frontline and the tactics of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces.
“From early morning, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces again undertook offensive actions in the northern and southern directions. More fierce battles continued in the southern direction. During these battles, our troops successfully managed to suppress several enemy troops’ attacks and throw them back to their initial positions,” Hovhannisyan said.
He also said that yesterday night and today the Armenian air defense managed to shoot down Azerbaijani drones, including the Turkish “Bayraktar” produced in September 2020.
“At the moment, the situation is tense, the fighting continues, although not as intensely as in the daytime,” the defense ministry spokesman said.
He noted that the commanders perfectly understand the enemy’s warfare tactics.
“Often, small raider groups penetrate mainly into large strategic settlements in which people either live or not, take pictures there, spread these rumors, which are primarily intended for their own population, but often painfully affect ours, “Hovhannisyan said.
In particular, he pointed out that there are settlements that were allegedly “seized” by the enemy 10-15 days ago, but until now, their control has not been established there.
“All such movements of such units are mainly destroyed by long-range strikes or other actions of our units. I urge you not to spread such news in our information field, not to discuss and especially not to spread such rumors in social networks,” he said.
Hovhannisyan also noted that such actions are carried out by terrorist groups.
The Armenian defense ministry spokesman said that the situation is stable and controlled.
War in Artsakh
On September 27, at 07:10, Azerbaijani troops launched an offensive along the entire length of the contact line in Artsakh, but were thrown back in several directions. Intense fighting continues in the south, southeast and north of the front line. Turkey joined the aggression. Residential areas are being shelled as well.
Azerbaijan is supported by the Turkish Armed Forces and foreign mercenary terrorists recruited by it. The Turkish-Azerbaijani aggression encounters a decisive rebuff from the Armenian Armed Forces along the entire frontline.
The Azerbaijani side suffered losses in manpower (more than 6,309 people killed and thousands wounded) and equipment, in particular, 195 UAVs, 4 units of TOS – 1A, 4 Smerch and Uragan MLRS, more than 566 tanks and other armored vehicles, 16 helicopters and 22 aircraft. According to the data of the defense ministry of Armenia and Artsakh, more than 725 Armenian servicemen were killed and hundreds wounded on the Armenian side. Also 37 civilians were killed and more than 116 wounded on the Armenian side.
On October 9, following the meeting of the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan and Jeyhun Bayramov, with the mediation of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, an agreement was reached on a ceasefire from 12:00 on October 10 for humanitarian purposes for the exchange of prisoners of war and the bodies of the dead. Armenia and Azerbaijan, with the mediation of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, on the basis of the basic principles of the settlement, are starting substantive negotiations with the aim of achieving a peaceful settlement as soon as possible. Two times humanitarian ceasefire agreements were reached, but Azerbaijan violated the ceasefire by opening fire at the opposite side and carrying out rocket attacks on residential areas.
Martial law and general mobilization were declared in Artsakh and Armenia.
