Azerbaijani troops, losing their armored vehicles, flee and try to hide in nearby forests Artsrun Hovhannisyan presents situation on Artsakh frontline

YEREVAN, October 24. /ARKA/. Artsrun Hovhannisyan, spokesman for the Armenian defense ministry, presented the situation in Artsakh at a briefing in the Unified Information Center.

“This morning, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces continued attacks in various directions of the frontline. In addition to the hostilities at the frontline during the day, various settlements of Artsakh were also subjected to rocket fire, including the cities of Martakert and Berdzor (Lachin) with nearby settlements (three shells fell in the vicinity of Berdzor), ” he said.

Hovhannisyan said that during the day, actions to neutralize Azerbaijani raider groups from the central direction to the south in the villages of Shekher, Jivanik and nearby settlements were especially fierce.

“There are concrete successes in this sector of the frontline – particularly the residential area of Sheher with the adjacent forests has been cleared almost completely. In the forests around some settlements, the neutralization is still under war,” he said.

In his words, today, in the southern sector, units of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces tried to attack Vorotan for almost the whole day: several attempts to attack failed, after which the enemy was thrown back with significant losses.

“Some units were disbanded and, having lost their armored vehicles, fled and tried to hide in the nearby ravines and forests,” he said.

Hovhannisyan also said that, in general, the tension remains, the battles are mostly hotbed, there are no clear lines. He noted that the enemy is trying to carry out attacks around various roads, rivers and junctions, which are neutralized by the Armenian Armed Forces.

“Our success is solid, the war is tense and difficult. Very often there are situations when, according to the perception of some, based on local incomplete data, [the situation] seems hopeless. However, this is not the case: our Armed Forces have complete control over the situation and strike the enemy in different directions and sectors, despite the fact that the enemy has advances in some places. The fighting continues day and night,” he said.

War in Artsakh

On September 27, at 07:10, Azerbaijani troops launched an offensive along the entire length of the contact line in Artsakh, but were thrown back in several directions. Intense fighting continues in the south, southeast and north of the front line. Turkey joined the aggression. Residential areas are being shelled as well.

Azerbaijan is supported by the Turkish Armed Forces and foreign mercenary terrorists recruited by it. The Turkish-Azerbaijani aggression encounters a decisive rebuff from the Armenian Armed Forces along the entire frontline.

The Azerbaijani side suffered losses in manpower (more than 6,539  people killed and thousands wounded) and equipment, in particular, 202 UAVs, 4 units of TOS – 1A, 4 Smerch and Uragan MLRS, more than 588  tanks and other armored vehicles, 16 helicopters and 24 aircraft. According to the data of the defense ministry of Armenia and Artsakh, more than 915 Armenian servicemen were killed and hundreds wounded on the Armenian side. Also 37 civilians were killed and more than 116 wounded on the Armenian side.

On October 9, following the meeting of the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan and Jeyhun Bayramov, with the mediation of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, an agreement was reached on a ceasefire from 12:00 on October 10 for humanitarian purposes for the exchange of prisoners of war and the bodies of the dead. Armenia and Azerbaijan, with the mediation of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, on the basis of the basic principles of the settlement, are starting substantive negotiations with the aim of achieving a peaceful settlement as soon as possible. Two times humanitarian ceasefire agreements were reached, but Azerbaijan violated the ceasefire by opening fire at the opposite side and carrying out rocket attacks on residential areas.

Martial law and general mobilization were declared in Artsakh and Armenia.
