YEREVAN, December 2. /ARKA/. The Yerevan Municipality will not install New Year tree in the central Republic Square this year, Hakob Karapetyan, spokesman for the capital’s mayor’s office, said.
“This year the New Year tree will not be installed on the square. The Mayor’s Office also decided against New Year’s decorations and other festivities in the capital either,” he told Armenpress news agency.
On November 24, the Yerevan Council of Elders decided to donate 100 million drams (almost $200 thousand) for the restoration of the capital of Nagorno-Karabakh Stepanakert, damaged by Azerbaijani shelling.
This money was to be spent on New Year’s festivities in Yerevan.
