YEREVAN, February 16. /ARKA/. Armenia’s Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports is not considering a possible cut in the funding of educational institutions, the ministry’s department in charge of public relations and information told Novosti Armenia news agency.
Earlier, a Telegram channel claimed that the financial department of the Yerevan Municipality had sent written notices to schools about a 10-15% cut in their funding. The Telegram channel claimed also that the move would spark mass protests.
The press secretary of the Yerevan Municipality Hakob Karapetyan told Novosti-Armenia that the municipality does not determine the amount of funding for schools and, therefore, cannot revise it.
The ministry for it part noted that all state educational institutions are fully funded in accordance with the decision of the Armenian government.
“The ministry has already signed agreements on the provision of subsidies with the institutions under its jurisdiction and approved the estimates,” the ministry said.
