Today, I’d like to expose the ugly face of a British politician who behaves hysterically and insanely.
Ed Davey, the Lib Dem leader, in a letter to China’s deputy ambassador to the UK, demanded “an urgent response” to one of my tweets a few days ago.
Davey joined a Labour MP to boycott the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics over the “mass repression” regarding China’s policies in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
To refute such a deliberate act that aimed to smear China and jeopardize the Winter Olympic Games, I wrote on Twitter, “Boycotting 2022 Beijing Winter Games, an unpopular idea, won’t receive wide support. IOC and athletes will both oppose it, and China will seriously sanction any country that follows such a call.”
Perhaps Davey felt that he had been disgraced, so he, according to the UK media, wrote the letter to seek an answer to what I mean by “sanctions.” In the letter, he defended his call for a boycott while claiming that the sanctions “would be an act of international bullying, and immensely damaging to China’s standing in the world.” I really have no idea what this MP is talking about. Is he that innocent or does he pretend so?
I don’t think the UK will boycott the Beijing Winter Olympics because that will be a disaster for international Olympic sports. The whole world will object to it, the International Olympic Committee will not accept it, and most UK athletes will not agree to it.
China, as the host country, will do the righteous thing by sanctioning any country that thwarts the Beijing Winter Olympics. I believe by then the Chinese people will back their government and the people across the world will support China to punish the evil forces who turn the Olympics into a geopolitical stage.
I hope the Chinese embassy in the UK will not respond to Davey. Let opinions be solved in the sphere of opinions.
