YEREVAN, February 24. /ARKA/. Armenian prosecutors have opened three criminal cases on the basis of complaints filed by the relatives of those killed during the 44-day war in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh).

The Office of Prosecutor General said it has received 5 reports from the relatives of the killed servicemen about crimes and initiated criminal cases into three of the complaints. The other two are being investigated, it said.

In addition, 17 applications were received from the relatives of the killed, missing and captured servicemen. For verification and the possibility of conducting investigations into these complaints, they were referred to the investigating authorities involved in the handling of criminal cases related to military operations.

In total, in 2020, the Prosecutor General’s Office received 10,435 complaints (1,427 less than in 2019). Criminal cases were initiated into 159 of them. Most of the complaints – about 3,045 – related to crimes against property and economic activity. Some 1,500 of them related to corruption-related crimes and crimes against human rights.

On September 27, 2020, Azerbaijani armed forces, backed by Turkey and foreign mercenaries and terrorists, attacked Nagorno-Karabakh along the entire front line using rocket and artillery weapons, heavy armored vehicles, military aircraft and prohibited types of weapons such as cluster bombs and  phosphorus weapons.

After 44 days of the war, on November 9, the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a statement on the cessation of all hostilities. According to the document, the parties stopped at where they were at that time. The town of Shushi, the districts of Agdam, Kelbajar and Lachin were handed over to Azerbaijan, with the exception of a 5-kilometer corridor connecting Karabakh with Armenia.

A Russian peacekeeping contingent was deployed along the contact line in Karabakh and along the Lachin corridor. Internally displaced persons and refugees are returning to Karabakh and adjacent regions, prisoners of war, hostages and other detained persons and bodies of the dead are being exchanged.–0-
