A key royal watcher believes that the couple have damaged Prince Charles’ reputation beyond repair
An expert has cautioned that at the rate they’re going, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s departure from the royal family and their habit of dragging the Windsor clan through the mud could utterly “topple” the monarchy, Express reports.
Even before Prince Charles has the chance to become king, this expert predicts, Meghan Markle and Harry’s decisions to flee the UK for California and then to trash the royal family in their Oprah Winfrey interview could decimate the House of Windsor.
For now, there is mourning to do in the wake of Prince Philip’s funeral. Charles has traveled to his holiday home in Llandovery, Wales, to grieve his father’s death, while Prince Harry has ditched the royal family in favor of speeding right back to California to be at the heavily pregnant Meghan Markle’s side.
Looking to the future of the monarchy, royal author Anna Pasternack has told Vanity Fair that Prince Charles may never recover from the damage that Meghan Markle and Harry have caused his reputation by airing the royal family’s dirty laundry on network television.
She told Vanity Fair: “The Sussexes have sparked something so fundamentally incendiary in this country that it is changing the face of Britain, and I think the monarchy as an archaic institution may well topple.”
In Meghan Markle and Harry’s shocking sit-down with Oprah last month, he divulged that his father cut him off financially after he and the duchess announced that they were leaving senior-royal life and his family behind in England in favor of a new start overseas.
The Prince of Wales went so far as to stop taking his son’s calls, the Duke of Sussex, as Harry is known, also said.
There was apparently little time for reconciliation during Harry’s rapid-fire visit to England last week. Following the 50-minute funeral for the Duke of Edinburgh, Harry repeatedly had only a brief meeting with his father and Prince William and Kate at Frogmore Cottage.
Meghan accused the Firm of racism, claiming a member of the family questioned what the colour of Archie’s skin would be prior to his birth.
Meghan Markle also slammed the royal family by telling Oprah that after she became suicidal during her first pregnancy, she was met with an icy and impassive response and told to observe a stiff upper lip.
Pasternack told Vanity Fair that she is “not 100 percent sure” that Prince Charles will ever succeed his 95-year-old mother on the British throne, not after Meghan Markle has so thoroughly sullied the royal family’s reputation.
The royal author predicted that Prince William may instead become king, considering that “he’s younger, more relatable.”
Express reports that William is said to believe that his younger brother utterly “blindsided” their grandmother with his sudden announcement that he and Meghan Markle were leaving the royal family behind in the UK.
The Duke of Sussex has skipped the Queen’s birthday and rushed back to the US to be with his wife Meghan Markle, who is pregnant with their second child. He and William are on speaking terms again, having reunited at their grandfather Prince Philip’s funeral on Saturday, but reports suggest their issues have not been entirely resolved. On one particular issue the pair clearly disagree; Harry insisted in his interview with Oprah Winfrey last month that he never blindsided the Queen with his decision.
“I’ve never blindsided my grandmother,” Harry insisted of how he and Meghan Markle handled their exit from the royal family.
“I have too much respect for her.”
But a source close to the Duke of Cambridge, as William is known, insists that he most certainly did feel that Harry blindsided the Queen and that this amounted to a last straw in the brothers’ already shaky relationship.
As for the late Prince Philip, the Mirror reports that during his dying days the Duke of Edinburgh was forlorn that the royal family had devolved into such a squabbling mess thanks to Meghan Markle entering the scene.
Prince Philip was “saddened” his family became a “soap opera” and would have told Harry and Meghan Markle “nobody’s interested” in response to their Oprah interview, a friend claims
