The couple’s polling numbers are in the toilet, and yet they’ve pledged to lead a life of serving a public that wishes they simply wouldn’t bother
In a conversation with the Mail on Sunday’s Diary Editor Charlotte Griffiths, royal commentator Richard Eden mulled over the recent YouGov poll of Britons which found, for example, that 60 percent see Meghan negatively.
“The reason their popularity has gone down is because they moved to America and did it such an incendiary way,” Griffiths noted of how Meghan Markle and Harry’s recent life decisions have not been in service of pleasing the Queen’s subjects.
“I think the British public do not approve of disloyalty,” Griffiths added and highlighted the irony of Meghan Markle and Harry saying they want to serve a public who feel that the couple has in fact betrayed them.
“On the face of it, Harry has just been very disloyal to his family. To think that even Andrew went up in the polls but Meghan went down; she’s not in good company.”
“Do we really think Harry and Meghan [Markle] would care though? Their focus is so much on America now,” Eden asked. Griffiths then replied, “They’re all about service now but what the poll shows is we don’t really want them to be doing all this service because they’re not very popular.”
Griffiths then posed the question about Meghan Markle and Harry: “Although they’ve dedicated their life to service, is there any appetite for them to do us all such a massive favor?”
The recent poll of 1,730 British adults was conducted between April 21 and 22, in the wake of Prince Philip’s death. It found that 49 percent of Britons hold a negative opinion of Harry.
The Daily Mail reports that in a recent interview with talkRADIO, royal expert Russell Myers said that Meghan Markle and Harry have served as a royal distraction to the House of Windsor.
Speaking to talkRADIO about the Duke of Sussex, 35, and Meghan Markle, who live with their son Archie, one, in a $14.7million home in Santa Barbara, California,’ the royal expert explained: ‘The rest of the Royal Family are very, very united in trying to get back to business.’ We have hardly seen them. They have popped up on Zoom calls here and there.’
“But no one has done the real business of monarchy, which is getting out, being among the people and shining a light on different charities, and traveling the world and the Commonwealth,” Myers said of the type of service to which the royal family is committed and which Meghan Markle and Harry have skipped out on by moving to the United States.
“It’s part of getting Britain back on its feet. As far as Harry and Meghan are concerned, I think they will be left to try and sort things out on their own.”
Radio host Kevin O’Sullivan then noted the extreme tension that persists between Harry and Prince Charles since the duke and Meghan Markle trashed the royal family during their Oprah Winfrey interview while blythely claiming they were devoted to a life defined by Windsors own métier of service above all else.
Express reports that during a recent episode of Pod Save the Queen, host Ann Gripper and Russell Myers discussed how Charles and Prince William are planning to rid the royal family of “distractions.”
[Myers] added that they are laying the foundations for this now so that when Prince Charles becomes King there will be a clear vision and there are “big changes afoot”
“Everything will be signed off by the Queen but [Charles and William] are the two heirs, right?” Myers said of how the two men next in line for the British throne are seeking to cull the Windsor herd, excising distractions such as Meghan Markle and Harry in service of establishing a new, streamlined monarchy. In the end, the only working royals will be Charles and Camilla and Prince William and his family.
“So things are going to look very very different in the next couple of decades aren’t they, so it’s about laying the foundations now and trying to get rid of an awful lot of the ‘distractions’ is how it was put to me.”
Myers continued: “Getting rid of those distractions of the wantaway couple, which has obviously been a distraction, the distraction of Prince Andrew’s controversial dealings with JeffreyEpstein, which are not going to go away.”
The Mirror reports that as far as Prince Charles and Prince William are concerned, Harry has betrayed them unforgivably. They do not intend to welcome him back into the fold.
Prince Charles and William will not open their arms to Harry again after the Duke of Sussex “crossed the line” with his Oprah interview, a royal expert has claimed.
